    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Who can join the Catalyst?

The Catalyst is open to people and businesses working across the commercial creative economy in the Central South.

That includes agencies, studios, freelancers, founders and specialists working in areas such as design, film, photography, architecture, digital, technology, marketing, advertising, content and communications.

It is also for organisations that support, commission, fund or champion creative work.

What matters most is a shared belief in the value of creativity and a willingness to connect, collaborate and contribute.

Whether you are an established business, an independent creative or just starting to build your network, there is a place for you here.

    • Is there a membership fee or cost to be involved?

No. There is currently no fee to join the Catalyst.

The work we do is powered by the community itself. Volunteers and supporters help run events, share ideas, make introductions and create opportunities for others.

We have also received funding from Hampshire County Council, with support from the RSA, Venturefest South, Carswell Gould, Lateral Edge and the University of Winchester. Our founding conspirators have played an important role too, helping turn the original idea into a growing movement for the region’s creative economy.

That collective support helps us keep the Catalyst open and accessible. In return, we ask people to get involved, contribute where they can and help build a stronger, more connected creative economy across the Central South.

    • Can I list events and get involved too?

Yes. The Catalyst is built by the creative community, so there are plenty of ways to take part.

You can submit relevant events for our listings, share news and stories, volunteer your time, support activities, help make connections or contribute ideas for what the community needs next.

We are especially keen to hear about events that bring people together, create opportunities, share knowledge or strengthen the creative economy across the Central South.

The Catalyst works best when people get involved. So if you have something to contribute, we want to hear from you.

    • What area do you cover?

Our focus is the Central South of England.

We bring together creative businesses, freelancers, organisations and supporters from across the region, helping people connect beyond individual towns, cities and local boundaries.

Creative work rarely fits neatly inside a postcode. So while the Central South is our home and our focus, we welcome people who work in, with or for the region and share our ambition to build a stronger, more visible and better connected creative economy.

Wherever you are based, if you want to contribute to the creative success of the Central South, there is a place for you here.

    • What’s the best way to get involved and benefit?

The best way to benefit from the Catalyst is to take part. First sign up and join our mailing lists, connect on social too.

Join events. Meet people. Share your work. Submit news and stories. List relevant events. Make introductions. Offer ideas. Ask for help when you need it.

The more visible and connected you are, the more opportunities there are to build relationships, find collaborators, win work and learn from others.

The Catalyst is not something you simply join and watch from the sidelines. It works best when people contribute, connect and help create opportunities for each other.

Get involved, be generous with your network and let people know what you do. That is how we build stronger creative businesses and a stronger creative economy across the Central South.
